These could all affect your vision and future eye health. The optometrist will then go on to assess your visual function with the aid of necessary lenses and charts. At this point the Optometrist will be able to show what impact any vision correction will have on your current vision status and determine whether distance vision, near vision or both require improvemen Once visual status has been determined the Optometrist will go on to assess the health of the eye. This is usually done with the aid of a biomicroscope or Ophthalmoscope. Using these tools the optometrist is able to check the outer surfaces of the eye and the inside of the eye including the lens and retina. The optometrist may wish to carry out additional tests, usually field examination and tonometry. The field examination usually involves using a machine that presents a series of flashing lights of varying intensity and different locations. Tonometry is done to assess the pressure inside the eye.
