Low vision assessments and aids

Visiting your optician is not just about getting glasses. When we examine the eyes, our optometrists and trained staff are constantly checking for things going wrong, but in some cases, severe loss of vision is not always preventable.

As a result, some people find themselves unable to do almost all of the day to day tasks that we take for granted. But all is not lost…

With the aid of new types of surgery, different magnifiers, telescopes, certain types of lighting and many more available resources, day to day life can be restored to a significant degree, in most cases.

Specialist assessment for these different types of LVAs or ‘low vision aids’ can return some tremendously rewarding results.

For instance, contrast can be a very important tool when someone has poor vision. Eating white foods like fish and potatoes off a brown plate or eating steak and peas off a white plate, may seem obvious, but it is just one of a variety of simple tools we can use.
Accessibility to talking books, big print newspapers, gadgets that attach to cups to indicate when the liquid level nears the top. There are so many different ways to help.

So book an appointment for that loved one you care so much about, or simply come in yourself if you’ve heard all about us. If there’s anything that can be done, we will try our utmost to do it.
